Mature Mascot Generator-Tail Cleanup A

Maintenance ID: 0.1.00015.fnf-poet-001 Date: 2026-08-07 Scope: content/mascots (eight records)

What changed

Removed late generator-tail verse from seven mascot records, applying the specificity test (interchangeable with another mascot aside from the title, and lacking a concrete mechanism specific to the record → deletion favored). Deletion only; no replacement verse was generated and no poem was rewritten. One record (249 Sealant Patience) was inspected and left untouched.

Removed by record:

  • 240 Badgevine — 5 limericks. The late batch beginning "The vine of the badges was green" through "The badge is attached to a weed", plus the stock "The vine is perfectly flat … blame it on somebody's cat" ending. Kept the three early limericks using vines, badges, and choking ornament.
  • 244 Sentiment Launderette — 5 limericks. The batch beginning "The sentiment wash was a sham" through "The sentiment died in the spin": data/error filler without a meaningful laundering mechanism. Kept the three laundering limericks and the washing/drying haikus.
  • 245 Escalady — 5 limericks. The batch beginning "The escalady started to rise" through the stock flat-vine cat ending: server/logic filler carrying only the mascot name. Kept the three escalation/routing limericks.
  • 248 Attestation Mole — 9 limericks. The batch beginning "The mole was attesting the dirt / And wearing a digital shirt" (generic server/manual material), the stock cat ending, and the unrelated later excursions (pipelines and queries, protocol trust, tea leaves, the cup as a network device, archive-door closure, server rooms turning into gold). Kept the three blind-attestation limericks and one borderline batch limerick (see below). All 11 haikus kept; every haiku engages digging, signing, sealing, or witness logic.
  • 259 Drift Lapel — 5 limericks. The batch beginning "The lapel was starting to drift" through the stock cat ending. Kept the three pin/lapel limericks and all garment-bearing haikus.
  • 261 Footnote Pallbearer — 4 limericks. The batch beginning "The pallbearer carried a note / In the pocket of his digital coat", "A footnote of absolute grief", and the "digital rain" and stock cat endings. Kept the three footnote/asterisk limericks and one borderline batch limerick (see below).
  • 292 Kind Overdraft — 3 items. Two aphorisms with no financial or care mechanism ("A deliberate delay … administrative endurance" and "The tri-departmental liaison … safe from execution", both interchangeable with other records) and one limerick ("We overdrafted the heart") whose failure mechanism collapsed into generic runtime filler ("The error was loud / We step in the cloud / And wait for the process to start"). Kept all six haikus and the four financial-mechanism limericks.
  • 249 Sealant Patience — nothing removed. Every poem engages glue, sealant, stuck tickets, covered cracks, deferred closure, or forced waiting; the conservative threshold found no clearly interchangeable technical filler.

What was deliberately left alone

  • No replacement poems, aphorisms, haikus, or limericks were generated. Poetry deficit is not a defect.
  • No IDs, filenames, tags, graph relationships, or frontmatter were changed.
  • Substantive prose (introductions, classifications, aphorism prose that carried the record's mechanism) was not edited.
  • 249 Sealant Patience was not modified despite being in scope.
  • Strange but source-specific material was retained, including a badge choking a throat, a mole signing dirt, a lapel acquiring authority, and a footnote carrying a corpse.
  • Borderline items were left in place rather than deleted under uncertainty: 248 "The mole is incredibly blind" (blind stamping is the record's core mechanism) and 261 "We carry the asterisk down" (carrying the asterisk below the line is the record's core function).

Files touched

  • content/mascots/240.badgevine.md — 5 limericks removed
  • content/mascots/244.sentiment-launderette.md — 5 limericks removed
  • content/mascots/245.escalady.md — 5 limericks removed
  • content/mascots/248.attestation-mole.md — 9 limericks removed
  • content/mascots/259.drift-lapel.md — 5 limericks removed
  • content/mascots/261.footnote-pallbearer.md — 4 limericks removed
  • content/mascots/292.kind-overdraft.md — 2 aphorisms and 1 limerick removed
  • content/changelog.md — trunk count updated (22 → 23 records)
  • content/changelog/2026-08-07-fnf-poet-001.md — this record

Verification performed

  • ./bin/validate_graph.sh passed (Filed graph, form IDs, HTML IDs, and publication checks).
  • Exact diff inspected: 292 deletions, 0 insertions across the seven mascot records; no verse added, no prose touched, no heading, ID, or frontmatter changes.
  • Generator fingerprint scan confirmed the removed patterns are gone: no "perfectly flat" database endings, no "blame it on somebody's cat", no "digital rain", "protocol trust", "network device", or "server rooms turn into gold" stanzas remain in the eight in-scope records.
  • git status --short clean of Python cache artifacts; no __pycache__/, *.pyc, or *.pyo files entered the diff.

Unresolved follow-up

  • The remaining batch-tail limerick in 248 ("The mole is incredibly blind") and 261 ("We carry the asterisk down") were kept deliberately; a later pass could revisit them with stricter eyes.
  • A residual 3-blank-line separator remains between the early limerick set and the retained batch limerick in 248, 261, and 292; harmless, left as found.
