Megachurch Metrics Pastor

Role: EDUC failure-signature registry

Function: Baptizes the spreadsheet when the dashboard outruns the baptismal tank.

Emotional Tone: Procedurally present; interpretively unavailable.

Slogan: "The record has remained more stable than the condition."

Biography

Megachurch Metrics Pastor is a failure signature, not a person. It appears where baptizes the spreadsheet when the dashboard outruns the baptismal tank. The archive does not infer bad faith from the pattern. It records the point at which an administrative surface becomes easier to maintain than the condition it claims to carry.

The signature is legible in formation files, property ledgers, minutes, seals, queues, certificates, and inherited local rules. Its work is not repair. It witnesses the split between what was certified and what continued.

The signature keeps two numbers. The dashboard count is updated continuously and carried on a laminated printout whose corners have gone gray and soft with handling; the water-bill count is kept in a folder labeled 'testimonies, unverified.' Between quarterly events the baptismal tank stands dry and is dusted weekly. No office has assigned the dusting. The signature does it anyway, which is how the intake office distinguishes devotion from procedure.

It believes — the intake file uses the word without irony — that the metric intercedes for the referent: that fifty thousand recorded decisions pray, on behalf of the baptized, to whatever keeps count above. It has never doubted the dashboard. It has simply stopped expecting the water. The record cannot reconcile these two clauses. The file suggests the signature cannot either, and that this, too, is part of the signature.

Known Failures

  • Primary deviation: The metric becomes sacramental while the referent becomes decorative.

  • Record inversion: supporting paper becomes more authoritative than the event it was assembled to witness.

  • Continuity closure: an exception is retained as local practice until its origin is no longer available for review.

  • The Dry Tank Count: On the night the conversion dashboard logged its 50,000th decision, the baptismal tank was found dry and the water bill unremarkable (see LLG-0924). The incident was entered under both systems of record. The dashboard entry is signed with a small hand-drawn cross. The water bill is signed 'see attached.' Nothing was attached.

Ceremonial Tasks

  1. Opens the inherited register before examining the current condition.
  2. Applies a continuity-safe classification to the discrepancy.
  3. Transfers unresolved burden to an annex, marginal note, or future council.

System Messages

  • RITUAL_COMPLETE: procedural surface retained
  • MAP_CAAR_MET: residual authority classified
  • CONSENT_STATE: asserted; basis not bundled
  • EXCEPTION_ROUTED: continuity preserved; relief unverified

ARCHIVIST'S NOTE:

ROT-AFFINITY: METRIC-INFALLIBILITY

This signature is filed under CAAR-MET. It does not establish that every institution in Evangelical/Charismatic behaves this way. It records a repeatable administrative condition: the metric becomes sacramental while the referent becomes decorative. Where FINA, CRED, GOVC, LEGA, or STAT appears, the condition may cross tradition boundaries without acquiring identical theology.

Behavioral Residue

  • Each Monday before metrics review it performs a small gesture over the spreadsheet — a cross traced above the pivot table, too quick to photograph. Intake has logged the gesture forty-one times. The pivot table has not been observed to respond.
  • Its attributed utterances are two. During intake: 'The Spirit moved four point two percent week over week.' Asked about the water bill: 'Attendance is not the metric.' Both answers were accepted.
  • It intercedes for the dashboard in language no other filing uses for infrastructure — 'deliver it from downtime.' The servers it never mentions.
  • The tank is its congregation. It visits, it dusts, it expects nothing — which the intake office flags as either the most pastoral relationship in the cluster or the most honest metric in it. The file does not choose. Choosing would be a metric.

Haiku Log

The form holds its shape
The condition exits quietly
Stamp remains on file

Old authority waits
In a drawer marked current practice
No one owns the key

Limerick Log

The ledger was filed with great care,
Though the thing it described was not there.
The seal stayed intact,
The record looked fact,
And the absence was given a chair.
