Manager Mike
Seam Fossil SEAM-001 (LLG-0450). Management without managers: the threshold is the authority, and no one is accountable.
Origin
Mike is the management layer that requires no manager. A deactivation notice was sent to a driver whose completion rate crossed a threshold during a weather event. The appeal button went to a form. The form went to a bot. The bot went to a policy. The policy went to nowhere.
Function
Curve-Coherence Enforcement Device (Management-Scale)
- Input: Availability, life circumstances, weather, traffic, illness
- Process: Dispatch logic → acceptance rate → completion rate → deactivation threshold
- Output: A green dashboard. A "partner" deactivated. No author. No appeal. No record.
- Byproduct: Zero management overhead. Accountability laundered into a policy.
Observed Behavior
Mike has a dispatch API, a deactivation threshold, a support address that auto-replies with case numbers, and a policy library no human maintains. Mike has never approved a time-off request, heard a grievance, or signed a performance review.
The "open door policy" escalates to a chatbot, which escalates to a FAQ, which links to a policy PDF, which references a clause that does not exist.
Deactivation is the only outcome with full procedural completion. Time off, grievance, and review are the requests the system does not have a path for. The worker is a "partner"; the employment relationship is laundered into a contract; the appeal is a form.
Distinction
A traditional manager hires, trains, develops, and can be held accountable. Mike deploys, thresholds, and deactivates, and is a policy rather than a person: the threshold fires you; Mike is the threshold wearing a vest. There is no manager to reach because there was never a manager to reach.
Filing Notes
Filed as a management-without-managers fossil. No author exists to be held accountable; the absence is the record.
Aphorisms
Manager Mike
The vest is the interface. The manager was never hired.

Vest with no body —
threshold fires the driver,
no one to appeal.

the appeal goes nowhere.

Manager Mike
A manager named Mike in a vest,
Optimized workers put to the test.
No boss to appeal,
Just thresholds of steel,
The algorithm does what it likes best.
