Origin

Maria is the contract labor behind the moderation queue: quota-driven review under severe time constraints, of material most people could not look at. Intake material described the work as contracted out, the NDA as standard, and "wellness support" as a channel with a PDF link — the quota unchanged.

Function

Trauma Filter (Human-Scale)

• Input: The queue — the material the model cannot decide
• Process: A glance → guideline match → binary decision → next item
• Output: "Actioned." "Reinstated." "Escalated." A clean feed.
• Byproduct: The reviewer's nights, relationships, memory; the PDF wellness link.

Observed Behavior

Automated triage can route unresolved material into the human review layer, making the human workload qualitatively different from the automated portion. The model does not replace the review layer; it concentrates the cases it cannot decide there.

The platform's claims — "AI-powered moderation," "scalable safety," "wellness support" — sit beside a reality in which a human absorbs what the algorithm cannot resolve and cannot speak about it. The platform cannot function without the review layer and cannot acknowledge it without liability.

The guideline has a section for "Self-Harm: Imminent Risk" concerning the users whose content she flags. It has no section for the moderator.

Distinction

The moderation claim is the public surface; the review layer is the load-bearing one. Maria is the seam between them — the point where "AI handles the rest" becomes "a human handled the rest."
